Job Summary

The University of British Columbia seeks a highly skilled Programmer Analyst II to design and develop complex computer application solutions for existing systems within the Faculty of Arts. This role will involve providing web services and application support for various departments, schools, and units, serving faculty, staff, and students across the faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and modify web application modules using software development processes and quality standards
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for web application products and services
  • Lead project management initiatives to implement new projects and processes
  • Consult with faculty and staff to assess business processes and prioritize needs
  • Document business requirements, rules, and specifications
  • Analyze information, run analytics reports, and make recommendations for application improvements
  • Ensure application security and perform quality assurance testing
  • Participate in the assessment of new technologies and provide suggestions for technology improvements
  • Develop training materials and provide training for users/trainers on software and hardware

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science or information technology
  • Minimum of three years of experience in software development, web development, or a related field
  • Experience with software development methodologies, such as Agile or Scrum
  • Knowledge of programming languages, including PHP, SQL, JavaScript, and Python
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git, GitHub, or GitLab
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects under pressure
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • High motivation to contribute to the learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with learning technology standards, such as LTI or IMS
  • Knowledge of containerization and microservices
  • ITIL training and/or certification
