WJS Canada is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illness to live fulfilling lives within their communities.
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support and guidance to clients, assisting them in developing essential life skills such as communication, emotional regulation, budgeting, household management, and self-care.
- Facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation in community activities, including artistic, educational, recreational programs, and volunteer opportunities.
- Collaborate with clients to establish achievable goals, offer encouragement during challenges, and celebrate their accomplishments.
- Connect clients with relevant community support services to enhance their well-being.
- Assist with daily living tasks such as meal preparation and household chores.
- Provide transportation for clients in your personal vehicle, accompanying them on recreational, leisure, vocational (training/employment) outings.
- Offer support and guidance to clients in managing behavioral, emotional, and social needs.
- Administer medication and provide first aid as required.
Your Qualifications:
- Proven experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities or mental illness.
- High School Diploma; post-secondary education in a related human services field is preferred.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License, reliable vehicle, suitable driver's abstract, and adequate insurance are essential.
- Demonstrated skills in coaching individuals in life skills, anger management, daily living tasks, self-help strategies, and problem-solving.
- Commitment to the principles of community-based living for individuals receiving support.
- Proficiency in computer skills as all files are electronic.
