About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Insurance Underwriter to join our team at Definity Financial Corporation. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in assessing and managing risk for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate new business submissions, including moderate to complex cases, within assigned underwriting authority
  • Re-underwrite and negotiate renewals and policy endorsements to ensure optimal risk management
  • Order and analyze inspections, financial reports, and other underwriting information to inform decision-making
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers, ensuring clear communication and mutual understanding
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with brokers, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment
  • Participate in production calls with brokerage offices, providing technical support and guidance as needed
  • Provide expert technical support to brokers, addressing their questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Actively participate in weekly internal production meetings, contributing to the success of the team
  • Mentor and provide technical support to less experienced team members, promoting knowledge sharing and growth
Requirements
  • University degree or college diploma, or equivalent experience and certifications (CIP designation preferred)
  • 3-5 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, with a strong understanding of risk assessment and management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Professional, friendly, and courteous communication style, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding creative solutions to complex challenges
  • Strong sales orientation, with a passion for building relationships and driving business growth

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location and other factors, including skills, education, experience, and local labour market conditions.
