Job Summary:
The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Information Services team as a Library Assistant. This is a temporary full-time position until February 12th, 2026, with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to the public, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with the maintenance of the library collection, including cataloging, shelving, and processing new materials.
- Support the development and implementation of library programs and services, including children's and adult literacy programs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and objectives, and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on library technologies and best practices.
Requirements:
- Completion of a Library Technician Diploma program or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and community engagement.
- Working knowledge of library software and technologies, including integrated library systems and online databases.
- Ability to learn new technologies and software quickly, with a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.
Working Conditions:
This is a temporary full-time position, working 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends. The position is based at the Vancouver Public Library, but may require travel to other library branches or community locations.
