Job Title: Registered Nurse - Adult Mental Health

North York General Hospital (NYGH) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Adult Mental Health team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care, education, and support to individuals with mental health conditions.

Job Summary:

This is a part-time casual position with 8-hour shifts, days, in the Adult Mental Health (Day Hospital). We offer a highly competitive total compensation package that includes benefits, pension, and vacation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver patient/family driven care in collaboration with the inter-professional team in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Provide individual, family, and group counselling, as well as coverage for the Wellness (depot) clinic for patients prescribed long-acting injections.
  • Participate in the rotation of nurses caring for patients receiving ECT and may be asked to do scheduling of ECT for both outpatients and inpatients.
  • Support patients on antipsychotic medications and educate them on how to recognize and manage physical and psychological effects of the medication.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, provide education, and work with patients using a recovery model in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in Psychiatry - Mental Health Nursing preferred.
  • Certificate/knowledge and work experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' psychiatric group experience, preferred.
