Job Summary:

Bureau Veritas Group is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician - Food Residue Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing sample preparation and extractions of target compounds under specific matrices and methodology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review laboratory information management system (LIMS) summary reports to plan and organize daily work
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) when performing sample extraction and clean-up to ensure quality data is provided to clients
  • Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling
  • Ensure priority samples are included in workload in order to meet turnaround time (TAT) specifications required by clients
  • Identify and communicate procedural non-conformances to supervisor
  • Participate, when requested, in method troubleshooting and non-conformance investigations
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up, and cross-contamination between samples and other materials
  • Accurately prepare all reagents and standards required for the methodology
  • Provide general laboratory support
  • Provide supervisor/manager with updates on workstation status, including advance notification of any delays
  • Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, quality system, and health and safety program
  • Participate, when requested, in laboratory and health and safety meetings
  • Participate, when requested, in internal and external audits
  • Keep work area clean, neat, and organized and contribute to housekeeping program
  • Provide general laboratory support
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary school education, preferably in sciences, or equivalent experience
  • Accurately follows standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instructions
  • Detail-oriented with accurate record-keeping skills
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking, and priority-setting skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Adapts to a changing environment
  • Works both independently and as part of a team
  • Learns quickly
  • The job incumbent must be available for shift work, working on weekends, and overtime

Working Conditions:

  • High level of work production in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process. Requires patience, tenacity, and persistence
  • Flexible working hours, overtime, and shift work
  • May involve long periods of standing
  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs)
  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
