R&D Design and Validation Engineer

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is pivotal in facilitating engineering activities encompassing the design, development, and execution of testing protocols for systems and equipment.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the static and dynamic stability of equipment through engineering calculations and testing, adhering to relevant standards.
  • Create testing apparatus and develop test plans essential for validation and assessment.
  • Execute validation and testing procedures on various components and subsystems, focusing on enhancing reliability and performance.
  • Compile comprehensive test reports documenting findings and present them to management and colleagues as necessary.
  • Generate technical documentation required for formal certification processes.
  • Maintain and update the inventory of testing and data acquisition equipment to optimize validation procedures.
  • Analyze equipment failures to diagnose issues and propose enhancements.
  • Utilize a variety of established or modified engineering methodologies with a significant degree of autonomy.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Preference for candidates pursuing or holding relevant professional designations.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Proven hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic testing, along with the development of corresponding test plans.
  • Background as a Test & Validation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Electrical Design Engineer in a manufacturing environment related to mobile or heavy equipment.
  • Essential experience in engineering calculations and testing.
  • Required design experience and proficiency in 3D modeling.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attributes.
  • Excellent communication abilities, capable of collaborating effectively with cross-functional technical teams and manufacturing personnel.
  • Ability to work efficiently both in teams and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Confidence in utilizing instrumentation and measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with PLCs or other programmable devices is advantageous.
  • Experience with data acquisition hardware/software (e.g., LabVIEW, Somat) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of engineering software (MathCad, FEA, CFD, Automation Studio, MATLAB Simulink) is beneficial.
  • Experience troubleshooting various control circuits and hydraulic systems is an asset.
