Position Overview
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at McMaster University offers an opportunity to engage in impactful clinical research and knowledge dissemination related to functional recovery following critical health events.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to Dr. Nora Cullen, Division Director of PM&R within the Department of Medicine, and a Professor at McMaster University.
Key Objectives
- Conduct and implement clinical research and knowledge translation initiatives focused on recovery post-critical illness or injury, under the guidance of Dr. Nora Cullen.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of research professionals, including scientists from Hamilton Health Sciences, St Joseph's Healthcare, and McMaster University, as well as national and international academic experts.
- Exhibit proficient project management capabilities.
- Engage in knowledge exchange with collaborators and essential stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership and Project Management:
- Facilitate and lead meetings with the research team.
- Support the supervision of residents and students engaged in research within the PM&R Division.
- Plan and manage research project operations, including ethics approval submissions, study execution, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Contribute to a CIHR-funded project focusing on rehabilitation following disability.
Data Analysis Expertise:
- Prepare datasets and perform statistical analyses.
- Effectively communicate statistical findings.
- Create visual representations of data analyses and results.
Grant Development:
- Enhance skills in grant writing and protocol development by taking a proactive role in crafting and submitting grant proposals and budgets to various funding bodies.
- Actively pursue funding opportunities from organizations such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canadian Frailty Network.
- Maintain correspondence with Health Research services at McMaster University.
Knowledge Dissemination:
- Draft manuscripts and abstracts for academic conferences and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Design and present posters and oral presentations.
- Lead discussions with collaborators and stakeholders to convey research findings.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Rehabilitation Sciences.
- Proven experience in rehabilitation or clinical research.
- Strong computer proficiency and experience in data management and visualization.
- Familiarity with data analysis software such as SPSS or SAS.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work autonomously.
