Position Summary: The Logistics Operations Supervisor is an entry-level frontline supervisory role tasked with fulfilling service commitments by overseeing daily train operations within a designated area or terminal, along with managing unionized train crews.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate support to the Transportation Manager and Assistant Superintendent during crossing incidents or injuries, collaborating with law enforcement and managing the site until operations resume.
- Assist in handling hazardous materials incidents, coordinating with the Dangerous Goods Officer to ensure the safety of employees and the public.
- Participate in Front Line Supervisor Development Programs to gain insights into our internal systems, processes, policies, and decision-making protocols.
- Foster teamwork and maintain order among staff, contractors, and internal clients by responding promptly to emerging issues.
- Utilize operational data to identify opportunities for enhancing asset utilization and service reliability, taking proactive measures within your territory.
- Oversee crew scheduling, track operational costs, and collaborate with management to optimize operations and control expenses.
- Develop recovery plans for service disruptions in conjunction with the Rail Traffic Control center and management.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of delays, implementing strategies to minimize them while monitoring terminal performance.
- Plan and organize workloads effectively.
- Collaborate with rail traffic control to manage train schedules and predict crew requirements.
- Advise on cost control and asset utilization during planning and execution.
- Communicate organizational goals and policies clearly to unionized employees.
- Conduct investigations in accordance with collective agreements and issue disciplinary actions with managerial support.
- Manage performance evaluations, addressing deficiencies and fostering required behaviors.
- Share best practices and operational insights to enhance transparency and understanding of company objectives.
Work Environment: This role involves irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires a mix of office and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Travel Requirements: The position necessitates travel for business purposes without prior notice, including responding to urgent situations.
Commitment to Safety: The Logistics Operations Supervisor prioritizes safety while adhering to collective agreements.
Qualifications:
- Experience in industrial work with increasing responsibility in a safety-focused environment.
- Familiarity with heavy machinery is advantageous.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
- Comprehensive understanding of safe rail operating practices.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required.
