Role Summary

As a key member of the Zone Technical Execution (ZTE) organization, the Capital Engineering team is responsible for the planning and execution of new and upgraded systems and capital assets at our manufacturing facilities across North America. Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Capital Execution, the Lead Engineer for Capital Project Management will establish strong connections with Manufacturing Pod Leads, Plant Operations, Technical Services Engineering Teams, Research and Development, Business Development, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Procurement.

In this role, you will provide guidance and mentorship to engineering and technical personnel at assigned plants regarding all facets of capital project management and plant engineering. Your experience in influencing and collaborating across various departments will be essential.

You will engage in cross-functional Peer Reviews for significant capital projects (exceeding $1MM) within the North American zone portfolio, ensuring that projects are appropriately sized and aligned with strategic objectives. It is crucial to define and incorporate future Maintenance and Growth capital projects into Strategic Plans, Master Plans, and Annual Operating Plans (AOP).

Key Responsibilities

Capital Expenditure Planning and Budgeting

  • Collaborate with Maintenance package owners (Food Safety & Quality, Environmental Health & Safety, External Suppliers, etc.) and closely work with Manufacturing and Supply Chain leaders to accurately define, prioritize, and budget capital projects within the AOP and Five-Year Strategic Plan.

Portfolio Oversight

  • Responsible for the health, compliance, and successful execution of all Maintenance and selected Growth projects within the designated portfolio.
  • Ensure that all operations and installations adhere to safety standards and comply with KHC and relevant industry regulations.
  • Guide site Engineering and Capital Project Managers in employing lean construction practices, quality assurance, safety protocols, cost management, and delivery techniques.
  • Authorize project change control requests and the utilization of contingency or supplemental funds.
  • Prepare and present portfolio status updates to Global and North American committees.
  • Collaborate with the Fixed Asset team to monitor and manage Construction Work in Progress (CWIP).

Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR)

  • Act as the Engineering representative for all Technical Peer Reviews (TPRs) within the assigned portfolio.
  • Review and authorize emergency CAR requests from sites.

Management System (Kraft Heinz Management System - KHMS)

  • Conduct audits and health checks.
  • Collaborate with PMO and Global/International teams on KHMS updates.

Project Management Standards and Tools

  • Partner with PMO to drive continuous improvement in capital project management practices across all KHC entities and initiate projects to enhance capital business processes.
  • Develop and disseminate best practices and key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize CAPEX Management and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Build, maintain, and oversee onboarding and training programs for site and network Engineering and Capital Project Managers.

Performance and Talent Development

  • Manage and mentor direct reports, providing ongoing feedback and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Technical Services, and HR partners to support team members in achieving their career aspirations. Provide insights and recommendations on development plans to facilitate their growth.
  • Responsible for organizational change management and engaging cross-functional partners (HR) as necessary.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • Proven experience in engineering, project management, and/or technical leadership.
  • Advanced expertise in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Food Engineering principles, demonstrated through successful project and program implementations.
  • Strong background in process and packaging equipment for the food industry, including plant facility engineering and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams on large capital projects/programs exceeding $20MM.
  • Understanding of capital financial metrics and manufacturing Key Performance Indicators.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach.
