Job Summary:

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HAZMAT Emergency Response Professional to join our TEAP III Verified HAZMAT Emergency Response Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide technical expertise to emergency activations involving dangerous goods, ensuring immediate response and upholding our high standards of safety and quality of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to HAZMAT emergency responses, including rail, road, and fixed facilities, at a moment's notice.
  • Perform chemical transloading, neutralization, and decontamination as required.
  • Assist with organizing resources, including personnel, equipment, and documentation, for response situations and preparation.
  • Ensure emergency response equipment is operationally ready, including preparation, decontamination, and servicing.
  • Collect and maintain relevant information and documentation during emergency services.
  • Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, following GFL procedures and upholding our high level of safety.
  • Participate in live training events and specialized projects as required.

Requirements:

  • Ability to be flexible and fulfill on-call and travel requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract; Class 1 or 3 driver's license highly desirable.
  • Experience in handling and/or transporting hazardous materials or emergency response an asset.
  • Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection as required.
  • Ability to work out of town from time to time as needed.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with vacuum trucks and power wash equipment an asset.
  • Prior training or experience in HAZMAT Technician, Tank car Specialist, Tank truck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc. an asset.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions during ER activations.
  • High level of effective communication and transparency.

This is a safety-sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required drug and alcohol testing.
