The Government of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Financial Auditor to join our team in a Desk Auditor position. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate tax compliance and promoting voluntary compliance with tax legislation.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct focus audits and correspondence inspection reports to ensure compliance with legislation.
- Resolve disputes and foster a collaborative work environment while directly supporting our mission of promoting voluntary compliance and ensuring taxpayers are well-informed and compliant with tax legislation.
- Ensure fair tax compliance and accurate assessments, enhancing public trust and clarity for citizens and businesses.
- Completion of a degree in an accounting, business, economics, finance, or related program plus one (1) year of recent *related experience; OR
- Completion of a diploma in an accounting, business, economics, finance, or related program plus two (2) years of recent *related experience; OR
- Completion of one (1) year of Post-Secondary education or CPA Preparatory courses plus three (3) years of recent *related experience.
- *Related experience includes any of the following:
- Interpreting and applying tax legislation, regulations and policy.
- Reviewing and analyzing legal documents such as contracts, purchase agreements, financial statements etc.
- Reviewing financial accounts or audit financial transactions.
- Auditing financial transactions.
- Full cycle bookkeeping.
- At least two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level (working with multiple worksheets, finding, and replacing data, sub-totaling, sorting and filtering large data sets, applying basic formulas, data imports and working with text data).
- Experience in more than one (1) of the above-listed related experiences.
- Experience using the taxpayer administration, compliance and services system.
- Experience dealing with potentially hostile or contentious situations and/or phone calls.
