Job Summary

The Intermediate Steel Detailer is a key member of our team at Waiward Industrial, responsible for developing detailed drawings and providing leadership to junior drafters. This role requires a strong understanding of structural steel construction and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed drawings based on client specifications and provide leadership to junior drafters.
  • Work closely with senior detailers and checkers on all aspects of a project.
  • Mentor and train junior detailers to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the role.
  • Identify and report any contract discrepancies or inconsistencies to supervision.
  • Model complex structures and input connections, producing clear and accurate erection drawings.
  • Edit assemblies and run model-generated reports and camdata.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary diploma from a structural engineering drafting and technology course or an equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the structural steel construction industry, primarily in a fabrication drafting environment.
  • Demonstrate experience in the use of Tekla Structures.
  • A good understanding of technical structural drafting terminology.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Have a good understanding of welding symbols and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate passion for one's work.

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines. Some positions may require standing for intermediate periods of time while completing tasks.

Physical Conditions

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
