Position Overview

As a key volunteer leader, you will collaborate with a dedicated group of 10 to 15 volunteers to organize impactful fundraising initiatives. Depending on community needs, roles may include committee chair, logistics coordinator, outreach specialist, volunteer supervisor, and social media strategist.



Role Summary

The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure features a 5k or 1k walk/run event.

In your capacity as the volunteer Director of Community Engagement, your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of Community Engagement volunteers (4-6 individuals, based on the size of the event).
  • Assisting Community Engagement Leads in crafting localized engagement plans.
  • Ensuring the timely completion of all essential Community Engagement tasks as per the established timeline.
  • Working towards achieving local revenue and participant goals for the event.
  • Co-facilitating committee meetings alongside your counterpart, the Logistics Director.
  • Regularly meeting with your CCS staff liaison and the Logistics Director.
  • Reviewing the CIBC Run for the Cure Minimum Standards to ensure all committee efforts align with CCS best practices.
  • Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new Community Engagement volunteers.

This event stands as the largest single-day, volunteer-driven initiative in Canada supporting the breast cancer cause.

Commitment Expectations
  • This role requires a commitment of 6 months (from May to October)
  • Participation in local committee meetings (typically bi-weekly to monthly)
  • Independent role responsibilities (approximately 8+ hours per month)
  • Availability during the event weekend.
