Your role will be to help us provide easy-to-deploy, secure, and customizable industrial edge solutions. You will work on designing and implementing applications that run on constrained IoT devices to powerful gateways. Embedded systems and Linux will be at the core of your everyday challenges.
In our team, we value collaboration, peer reviews, good integration/unit testing, and writing maintainable code. General knowledge and experience with Linux as a developer platform are required.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to design and implement applications for industrial edge solutions.
- Develop and maintain open-source IoT application packages to ensure high-quality and secure code.
- Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
- Review code produced by upstream and/or other engineers at Canonical to ensure consistency and quality.
- Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions with the team.
- Experiment with Ubuntu Core and showcase industry-grade IoT solutions to demonstrate expertise.
- Work on Matter, the connectivity standard unifying smart homes, to contribute to the development of IoT platforms.
- Participate in IoT standardization working group discussions and planning to stay up-to-date with industry developments.
- Work from home with occasional global travel for internal and external events.
- Proven track record of at least 3 years of professional software development using Go or C++.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs, MQTT, or other messaging protocols to ensure seamless communication.
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as WiFi, BLE, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Thread to design and implement IoT solutions.
- Interest and experience with a few of the following:
- Containers (docker, kubernetes) to ensure efficient deployment and management.
- Linux distributions to develop and maintain applications.
- Snap, debian, or RPM packaging to ensure secure and reliable deployment.
- Shell scripting to automate tasks and improve productivity.
- CI/CD (Github Actions, Gitlab CI, etc) to ensure continuous integration and delivery.
- IoT frameworks and protocols to design and implement IoT solutions.
- Real-time applications to ensure timely and efficient data processing.
- Value soft skills, communication, and advocacy, and are passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self-motivated to thrive in a collaborative environment.
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or similar degree to demonstrate a strong foundation in software development.
