About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Superintendent to join our team at Algoma Central Corporation. As a key member of our Marine Operations department, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day technical operations of our vessels, ensuring safe and efficient operations in accordance with company policies, government regulations, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the safe and efficient operation of all engineering-related functions on assigned vessels.
- Conduct vessel visits and inspections to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Monitor vessel efficiency and environmental performance, ensuring established KPIs are maintained.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of vessels, including planning and execution of work.
- Liaise with external authorities, including flag, class, and port state regulatory bodies.
- Lead or participate in internal audits and incident investigations.
- Prepare and monitor budgets for assigned vessels, ensuring effective resource allocation.
- Collaborate with the Sales & Traffic department to identify customer service requirements.
- Participate in Marine Emergency Response and the after-hours hotline.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Maritime Studies, with a preference in Marine Engineering.
- Class One certificate of competency required.
- Minimum 1-3 years' experience in technical and managerial positions with relevant maritime organizations.
- Proven track record of success in technical and managerial roles.
- Sound knowledge of quality and regulatory disciplines (ISM/ISO), OCIMF regulations, and ability to carry out investigations and analysis.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication, organization, planning, and prioritization skills.
- Sound judgment, ability to balance business needs with employee advocate role.
- Valid passport and driver's license.
- No travel restrictions.
