The Clinical Scholar RN is an experienced OR nurse who functions in a supernumerary role to provide mentorship to new graduate nurses and nurses needing support with clinical skills related to pre, intra and post-operative care in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship to new graduate nurses and nurses needing support with clinical skills
  • Collaborate with the OR Coordinator and Resource Nurses
  • Adhere to Brightshores' 'CARE' Behaviours and 'LEAD' Competencies
  • Advocate and support a culture of patient safety

Requirements:

  • Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses: Registered Nurse
  • Successful completion of the Operating Room certificate
  • At least two years of OR experience
  • Ability to scrub and circulate in all services
  • Knowledge of the current ORNAC standards
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to flex time to meet unit's need
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving, decision making and organizational skills
  • Ability to respond to urgent/emergency situations
  • Must be willing to take call and be available to reach the hospital within 20 minutes
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
