Role Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse (RN) reports directly to the Director of Care and/or designated personnel, serving as a role model and team leader. The RN is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the activities and responsibilities of those providing direct care to residents. Key responsibilities include:
- Actively participating as a collaborative team member, fostering professional relationships that enhance the organizational culture.
- Assessing residents' needs and implementing individualized care plans tailored to each resident.
- Supporting Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in reviewing and updating care plans, providing clinical decision-making support as necessary.
- Administering medications and treatments in accordance with established standards and regulations.
- Managing community wound care, assisting LPNs with assessments and referrals to specialists as needed.
- Providing direct care to residents and collaborating with other departments to ensure quality care.
- Communicating effectively with physicians, community agency representatives, families, and volunteers.
- Facilitating the move-in process and adhering to community policies.
- Attending Care Conferences in the absence of the Director of Care.
- Ensuring residents' rights are upheld and promoting a holistic approach to wellness.
- Acting as a First Aid attendant and ensuring proper documentation for any incidents.
- Maintaining a safe environment through accident prevention and adherence to emergency procedures.
- Supervising care staff, directing their activities to ensure resident-focused care.
- Providing clinical guidance to community care staff when the Director of Care is unavailable.
- Participating in on-call duties as required.
- Conducting community audits and compiling data for submission to the Director of Care.
- Assisting in the orientation of new employees and providing educational resources to clinical staff.
- Maintaining confidentiality in all documentation as per established standards.
- Performing additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing program and a current license with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification and CPR certification.
- Successful completion of annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.
- Prior experience in a long-term care setting is advantageous.
- All candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial guidelines.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and work with cleaning agents.
