About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Design Lead to join our team at Hatch. As a key member of our Calgary office, you will be responsible for leading the design management of civil components, including drainage, utilities, and roadways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead overall design management of civil components, ensuring that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints.
  • Plan and monitor project resourcing, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and monitor work programs to deliver projects to deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain excellent client relationships, providing sound technical leadership and guidance.
  • Familiar with design development processes and software tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley InRoads.
  • Active involvement in client management and business development, mentoring and developing junior staff to foster a team approach.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered as a P.Eng.
  • Minimum 10+ years of utilities experience in the design of municipal infrastructure projects in a consultant environment.
  • Experience managing civil underground utility projects, including installation of water mains, sanitary and sewer infrastructure, roadwork, or related.
  • Experience in infrastructure planning, including identifying water and sewer infrastructure needs.
  • Demonstrable record of successfully designing drainage and utilities provision for development, urban regeneration, and transportation projects.
  • Solid understanding of engineering skills, including geometric design, grading, permitting, coordination with utility companies, and the production of utility schemes of accommodation and roadway drainage design.
  • Familiarity with using GIS for spatial analysis and hydraulic modeling is preferred.
  • Proficiency in CADD (MicroStation and/or InRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D), AutoTURN (would be an asset), Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience in the production of plans, specifications, and engineer's estimates for roadway projects.
  • Understanding of engineering principles related to capacity and loading of municipal infrastructure.
  • Established working relationship with various clients, including municipalities.
  • Extensive experience interfacing with local utilities and agencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure network, utility coordination, and processes.
  • Technically strong working within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experienced in project management, report, and proposal writing.
  • Track record of delivering infrastructure projects to quality, budget, and timescales.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal).
  • Ambitious and self-motivated.
  • Ability to lead design teams in a variety of projects.
  • Work experience in railway infrastructure projects is an asset.
