Job Title: Access Services Assistant

Mount Allison University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Access Services Assistant to join our team in the R.P. Bell Library. As a key member of our Access Services Department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff, while maintaining the day-to-day operations of the department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide friendly and knowledgeable front-line public service to patrons, including answering account and circulation questions, and resolving queries using good judgment and established guidelines.
  • Perform technical duties related to catalogue records of library materials, including processing library materials at all stages of the circulation workflow.
  • Operate the Library's course reserve services, with responsibilities including receiving and processing course reserves, liaising with faculty about course reserves, and being aware of Canadian copyright as it relates to materials on reserve in libraries.
  • Process financial transactions accurately and securely, and provide clerical assistance to librarians and archivists.
  • Open and close the building, ensuring the security and safety of library users and resources.
Requirements:
  • Library Technician's Diploma or a University degree or relevant combination of coursework and experience in a library, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with patrons, including students, staff, and faculty.
  • Experience with the digitization of materials is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with an Integrated Library System.
  • Knowledge of library services, familiarity with library resources, and skills in using word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. The successful candidate will be required to perform bending/lifting tasks, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items.
