Since its inception, Tarion has been dedicated to safeguarding the interests of new home buyers and homeowners, ensuring their significant investments are protected. The organization provides warranty coverage for nearly every new home in the province, backed by Ontario's builders, lasting up to seven years. Currently, over 375,000 homes are enrolled in this warranty program, with approximately 55,000 new homes added annually.

As an independent, not-for-profit entity, Tarion offers peace of mind to Ontario's new home buyers and owners, assuring them that their purchases are protected through the province's warranty and protection program. The organization empowers homeowners with free tools, guides, and resources to help them navigate their builder's warranty and manage warranty claims confidently. When builders fail to meet their warranty obligations, Tarion steps in to provide guidance and resolve claims.
Role Overview
The Principal Cybersecurity Consultant is tasked with safeguarding the organization’s hardware, software, users, network, and overall infrastructure from cyber threats. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the company's IT framework and continuous monitoring to assess potential vulnerabilities that could compromise security.
The consultant is committed to strengthening the organization’s security posture and protecting sensitive data through the implementation of effective solutions and management of vendor partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Threat Identification
- Evaluate and report on advanced threats and vulnerabilities, considering enterprise-level IT controls and technologies.
- Assess security requirements and controls during application development and acquisition processes as per organizational policies.
- Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments across various IT systems, identify security weaknesses, and recommend strategic measures to mitigate risks.
Monitoring
- Oversee the monitoring of security metrics and ensure the generation of detailed security reports and dashboards.
- Enhance activities within the Proactive Threat Management program to uphold high security standards.
Reporting
- Analyze key cybersecurity metrics across the organization and produce comprehensive security reports.
- Communicate residual risks, vulnerabilities, and security exposures to senior management.
- Manage incident response activities and generate detailed security reports.
Vendor Management
- Conduct security risk assessments of third-party vendors, addressing issues that affect business objectives.
- Execute information security risk identification, evaluation, documentation, and reporting using advanced analytical tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective vendor risk management.
Project Management
- Support external and internal audits and remediation efforts related to information technology.
- Design and implement information security controls and develop standard security configurations for systems and processes.
- Review and document system, network, and application security vulnerabilities, recommending remedial actions.
- Develop and manage the organization’s Cyber Security Program, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and assist technical teams in addressing identified vulnerabilities.
- Maintain the organization’s Information Security Incident Response capabilities and procedures.
- Develop and review information security standards and procedures, identifying gaps and suggesting improvements.
- Coordinate activities to mitigate and respond to identified risks.
Research and Development
- Conduct advanced security research to stay informed about the latest threats and technology trends.
- Lead initiatives to evaluate and implement new security technologies and methodologies.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess experience in Enterprise Network & Systems, Cloud Architectures, Information Security & Risk Management, and Incident Response. They should demonstrate proficiency in risk analysis and compliance with frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST, while driving the development of robust security policies. Strong analytical skills and the ability to lead strategic planning are essential, along with a commitment to fostering a security-aware culture through training and awareness initiatives.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum Community College Diploma in Cybersecurity or equivalent.
- 6-10 years of experience in an IT security role, focusing on compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical capabilities to assess security requirements and implement appropriate controls.
- Familiarity with ITIL, NIST, or similar best practices for IT Service Management.
- Working knowledge of the incident response lifecycle and MITRE ATT&CK Framework.
- Relevant certifications and experience with ERM/GRC platforms are advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in information systems or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Enterprise Cybersecurity, Networks, Systems & Cloud Architectures.
- Knowledge of Vulnerability Management and Security Awareness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Azure and Microsoft 365 Security Architectures.
