Key Responsibilities:

I. Technology Architecture

  • Collaborate proactively with Product and Platform teams, as well as other enterprise architects, to develop scalable, adaptable, and maintainable technical systems that provide business value and align with the Abiomed technology vision and enterprise standards.
  • Lead an Abiomed Architecture guild, fostering architecture engagement throughout product development, including:
  • Design, development, maintenance, and dissemination of reference architecture patterns.
  • Establishment, approval, and enforcement of architectural standards.
  • Creation and/or endorsement of solution designs and adjustments.
  • Co-design of essential metrics and evaluations.
  • Assessment of technologies and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with product and platform owners to formulate multi-year roadmaps that adhere to established architectural principles and business strategies.
  • Continuously monitor the technology landscape for innovative and transformative technologies that provide a competitive edge.
  • Act as a key facilitator to reduce total ownership costs and complexity across the application ecosystem.
  • Integrate with product development teams when strong architectural involvement is necessary.

II. Application Lifecycle Management

  • Continuously identify opportunities for application rationalization to streamline the Abiomed application portfolio in partnership with Business Unit IT (BUIT) stakeholders.
  • Utilize architecture tools and datasets such as MEGA/ALM Dashboards and application inventories to collect, maintain, and effectively utilize application and technology lifecycle management (ALM, TLM) data.
  • Promote awareness among application owners regarding the significance and adoption of ALM standard processes.
  • Lead targeted application inventory initiatives aimed at curating the CMDB and engaging technical application owners (TAO) to accurately maintain business services and applications.
  • Collaborate with solution leads, technology services, product line owners, and other enterprise architects to integrate total cost of ownership insights into annual business planning and portfolio management processes, ensuring lifecycle management is part of multi-year investment strategies.
  • Partner with technology services, product lines, and other enterprise architects within the broader J&J organization to influence enterprise technology strategies and identify opportunities for mutual leverage across sectors and business units.
  • Occasionally represent Abiomed within the global J&J enterprise during knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A BA/BS degree in a technical, engineering, or scientific discipline and 8 years of relevant business or technology experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience in technology architecture within an enterprise context, demonstrating a successful track record in complex, dynamic environments.
  • Practical experience with several of the following technologies: public/private cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), virtualization, AI/ML, IoT, micro-services, data warehousing, and ETL.
  • Familiarity with system development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Proven experience leading technical discussions, workshops, and workstreams to achieve consensus and actionable outcomes.
  • Ability to comprehend and articulate business requirements, direction, and initiatives, balancing needs from enterprise, sector, and franchise/region levels.
  • Capacity to translate business strategy into technology strategy within a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex topics into clear architectural diagrams and presentations.
  • Strong relationship-building and management skills at various organizational levels.
  • Experience with several methodologies such as agile, design thinking, Katas, TOGAF, and problem-solving techniques.
