Role Overview

As a Pediatric Pulmonary Function Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive pulmonary function tests and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all Pulmonary Function Category IV Laboratory assessments as stipulated by the Diagnostic Accreditation program.
  • Calibrate and confirm the operational integrity of diagnostic equipment prior to patient evaluations using calibration syringes and gas analysis techniques.
  • Carry out specialized pediatric pulmonary diagnostic tests, including Membrane Testing and Impulse Oscillometry.
  • Monitor patients' overall condition to guarantee safety and optimal effort during procedures.
  • Analyze patient responses throughout testing and therapies; meticulously document findings in patient records.
  • Provide educational sessions and demonstrate procedures to students, physicians, and healthcare team members, covering medication administration, peak flowmeter usage, and basic pulmonary function testing for residents.
  • Support the maintenance of quality assurance and infection control protocols through specialized testing and participation in quality control meetings.
  • Conduct routine calibration, upkeep, and sanitation of equipment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination.
  • Eligibility for membership with the British Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
  • Current certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
  • At least one year of recent pediatric Pulmonary Function Diagnostic experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
