Job Title: Food Service Worker

We are seeking a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team at the City of Thunder Bay. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to residents, staff, and patrons in a long-term care home, supportive housing, daycare, or meals on wheels delivery program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve meals to residents, staff, and patrons, maintaining quality, portion control, and attractive presentation.
  • Operate all food service equipment, including the cash register.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and equipment.
  • Responsible for careful operation and use of all equipment, follows recommended utilization of supplies, and chemicals and reports hazards and equipment defects.
  • Load and move dishes to and from kitchen and dining areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cutlery, pots, pans, steam kettles, etc.
  • Provide courteous and tactful customer service to residents, families, staff, visitors, and other patrons.
Requirements:
  • Grade ten education or equivalent.
  • Current Safe Food Handling certification approved by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
  • Completion of or enrollment in a food service worker training program approved at a college of applied arts and technology or a Food Service Worker program provided by a private career college or otherwise meets the training and qualifications requirements under Reg. 246/22 of the Fixing Long Term Care Act.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques.
  • A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the frail and elderly is required.
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
