Certified Geriatrician Opportunity in Annapolis Valley

The Annapolis Valley Region is currently seeking applications for a permanent full-time certified Geriatrician to enhance the senior care team dedicated to serving the elderly population. This role is integral to the interdisciplinary senior care team, which includes nurses, social workers, administrative support, and a program manager. The selected candidate will become part of a developing geriatric team within the Western Zone, playing a vital clinical role while collaborating with family physicians and medical specialists through a shared-care model.
Candidates must hold Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, possessing certification (or an equivalent) in Geriatric Medicine. Preference will be given to those with extensive experience in geriatric medicine. Additionally, candidates must qualify for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia and be capable of commuting independently to various care settings, which include hospitals, homes, long-term care facilities, and assisted living residences. The physician will work closely with the senior care team to deliver comprehensive care.
The Annapolis Valley is home to community hospitals and a regional hospital that serves a broad catchment area, providing a wide range of services, including:

- Clinical dietetics

- Diagnostic imaging
- Emergency medicine
- Intensive care unit
- Laboratory services
- Medical and surgical unit

- Rehabilitation services
- Deliver full scope of practice as both an internist and geriatrician.
- Provide office-based, hospital, on-call, and ICU support as necessary.
- Engage in and contribute to teaching programs and related activities.
- Participate in various administrative responsibilities as assigned.
- Offer support to your designated site and potentially to others in the Western Zone, which may involve traveling clinics.
- Report to the Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine regarding professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
- Adhere to the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
- Full-time position.
- On-call requirements will be determined based on community needs.
- Certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- Eligibility for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
