Job Summary We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team at Lions Gate Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I, you will be responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures, analyzing results, and preparing solutions and reagents. You will also be responsible for communicating test results to healthcare teams and maintaining laboratory equipment. Responsibilities * Obtain laboratory samples from patients as required * Perform laboratory procedures and analyze results according to established policies * Prepare a variety of solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures * Respond to requests and inquiries for test results by various methods as required by the standard operating procedures * Communicate test results to the appropriate parties, including designated members of other health teams, by methods such as printing and distributing lab results in accordance with the established procedures of the designated area * Perform routine instrument maintenance, including the setup, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments * Identify and report malfunctions in equipment in accordance with the practices established by the Diagnostic Accreditation Program (DAP) * Assist in the evaluation of technical procedures and provide input in the development and maintenance of policy procedures for assigned work area Requirements * Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) * One (1) year of recent related experience, including experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience * Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections * Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory, including quality control and safety * Basic awareness of research process * Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing * Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload * Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others * Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment * Basic knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care using point-of-care instrumentation * Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory * Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position * Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study What We Offer * Every PHSA employee enables the best possible patient care for our patients and their families * Join one of BC's largest employers with province-wide programs, services, and operations * Access to professional development opportunities through our in-house training programs, including +2,000 courses * Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including a municipal pension plan and psychological health and safety programs and holistic wellness resources * Annual statutory holidays (13) with generous vacation entitlement and accrual * PHSA is a remote work-friendly employer, welcoming flexible work options to support our people (eligibility may vary, depending on position) * Access to WorkPerks, a premium discount program offering a wide range of local and national discounts on electronics, entertainment, dining, travel, wellness, apparel, and more Location Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, BC Hours of Work Rotating; various shift times Requisition # 168102E As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.
