Aquatic Safety Instructor

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act Ont. Reg. 565 for Public Pools.
• Supervise and safeguard bathers in both pool and changing areas.
• Teach water safety principles to both adults and children, including the Lifesaving Swim Program and advanced levels upon request.
• Enforce all rules and regulations with professionalism and courtesy, addressing any issues that arise and providing guidance to the Aquatic Head Lifeguard.
• Be ready to conduct water rescues, administer first aid, and apply current resuscitation techniques as necessary.
• Confirm that all participants exit the pool area before commencing the next class, ensuring no individual is left unattended on the pool deck.
• Conduct daily equipment checks and report any issues to the Head Lifeguard.
• Maintain up-to-date aquatic certifications and provide relevant documentation to the Supervisor of Aquatics & Programming.
• Participate in training clinics to enhance technical skills and renew qualifications as needed.
• Wear the designated uniform, which includes a one-piece bathing suit and shorts for females, appropriate-length bathing suit shorts for males, along with a lifeguard shirt, hat, and whistle.
• Keep accurate attendance records and issue progress cards to participants upon session completion.
• Ensure proper maintenance of worksheets and submit them to the supervisor at the end of each session.
• Progressively evaluate swim levels and award crests to candidates upon successful completion.

Qualifications: (documentation required at application)

• Minimum age of fifteen (15) years.
• Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification.
• Current Lifesaving & Emergency First Aid Instructor Certification.
• Current National Lifeguard Certification.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR / AED level C, from approved training agencies.
