The Financial Reporting Specialist will be responsible for the internal financial reporting to the management team, external reporting to investors and regulatory bodies, and supporting transactional initiatives and asset management teams. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance at Spira Equity Partners, the successful candidate will be passionate, curious and highly adaptable to a fast-paced and dynamic environment where organization and prioritization skills are paramount. The role will work closely with other team members across the firm in Finance, Asset Management and Acquisitions.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs Financial Reporting Specialist, you will be responsible for all aspects of the firm's fund operations and financial reporting. Fund level reporting is prepared with support from third party fund administrators while property level reporting is prepared with support from external property management. Oversight of these service providers will be the responsibility of the Financial Reporting Specialist. Other responsibilities will include:
- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities of the firm including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Support the preparation of internal reports, budgets, and cashflow models.
- Oversee the issuance of external reporting including quarterly financial statements, NAV statements and investor notices.
- Manage fund operations, including accounting for fund-level general ledgers and maintaining receivables and payables for the funds.
- Prepare quarterly management fees, capital calls and distributions.
- Lead the year-end audit of the funds and underlying properties by completing reconciliations, preparing working papers, and liaising with the external auditors to provide the necessary documentation.
- Provide financial support to the asset management team, including review of monthly property reporting packages and external reporting.
- Support the internal tax team with tax compliance requirements.
The Financial Reporting Specialist will be responsible for:
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to improve internal controls.
- Continuously review, standardize and streamline business processes.
- Manage investor relations and respond to ad hoc queries.
- Provide leadership to junior staff, fostering development, responsibility, and accountability.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals and deliver exceptional results.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant progressive experience.
- Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
- Open-mindedness and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to analyze complex information and develop strategic solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex matters and issues in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to multi-task and manage a demanding workload and multiple deadlines.
- Desire to successfully lead, coach and mentor team members.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
