Job Summary:

The Junior Health and Safety Specialist position is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to develop their career in a dynamic and rewarding environment. As a key member of the North America Construction Ltd team, the successful candidate will work closely with supervisors and staff to administer health and safety programs, policies, and assessments, with a focus on continuous improvement and compliance with health and safety legislation and industry best practices.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide health and safety guidance, support, and oversight to projects and personnel
  • Address personnel's inquiries on health and safety risks and opportunities
  • Assist with maintenance of health and safety documents and ensure timely and accurate record keeping
  • Coordinate health and safety orientation and training delivery
  • Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Support personnel in understanding, applying, and adhering to safe work practices and procedures
  • Foster a culture of health and safety awareness and communication
  • Participate in health and safety inspections and incident management, as required

Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent preferred
  • Environmental experience or certification is an asset
  • Working knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation and standards
  • Prior work experience in construction is an asset
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records
  • Service-oriented leader with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Tact, diplomacy, flexibility, listening, and persuasion skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with enthusiasm and a positive, results-focused attitude
  • Experience with database applications and administration systems is an asset
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle
  • Valid WHMIS, First Aid, Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers and/or Supervisors certificates are required
