The Ashcroft Mining Division is dedicated to servicing key clients by transporting bulk materials, including copper ore and various soil amendments, throughout Western Canada. Our team consists of approximately 20 professionals, including drivers, mechanics, and management personnel.

Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Working Shop Foreman is to ensure the efficient and cost-effective management of the workshop. This role involves overseeing the shop operations, directing and evaluating the work of journeyman and apprentice mechanics, and fulfilling the managerial and administrative duties associated with the position. The Working Shop Foreman will spend approximately 50% of their time on the shop floor, performing skilled tasks related to the mechanical repair and maintenance of tractors, trailers, and mobile equipment. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a safe working environment and complying with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents promptly to facilitate corrective actions.
- Continuously seeking improvements in operations, reducing turnaround times, and enhancing customer service.
- Supervising, training, and assessing a team of 2 to 10 mechanics, depending on shop size.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Maintaining high serviceability of the divisional fleet's onboard systems.
- Making recommendations regarding parts and equipment specifications.
- Keeping the work environment clean and organized.
- Performing routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, and mobile equipment.
- Following all safety protocols and participating in hazard identification.
- Suggesting improvements in working conditions and equipment usage to enhance shop efficiency.
- Inspecting equipment for proper performance and diagnosing defects.
- Conducting repairs on mechanical transmissions, drive-trains, and final drives.
- Performing incidental welding repairs as needed.
- Operating automotive servicing equipment.
- Demonstrating flexibility and strong interpersonal skills in a diverse work environment.
- Operating serviced equipment, including bringing vehicles in and out of the shop.
- Installing new equipment and performing electrical and hydraulic diagnostics.
- Testing repaired equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of technological advancements and repair techniques.
- Completing maintenance reports and documentation accurately.
- Performing additional mechanical repair tasks as required.
Qualifications
- A Journeyman's certificate or Red Seal in Commercial Transport, Heavy Equipment, or Welding.
- Proven supervisory and people management experience.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
