In the role of Senior Engineer, Protection and Control, you will collaborate with a specialized team of engineers dedicated to addressing ENMAX Power Corporation's Protection & Control (P&C) requirements.
Your responsibilities will include mentoring junior personnel and advising internal stakeholders to ensure the effective protection of transmission, distribution, and network assets, thereby meeting customer expectations.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of Protection and Control relay calculations and settings files.
- Provide technical assistance to field P&C teams.
- Develop and assess protection studies and conduct fault analysis calculations to guarantee proper coordination of substation relays.
- Assist in investigating protection performance during disturbances and other operational issues, preparing reports with recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Offer technical support in distribution protection to both internal and external parties.
- Help coordinate the maintenance and asset management of substation-based distribution assets.
- Support the operation of the Distribution Automation system.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS).
Additionally, you will participate in the Senior-On-Call rotation, managing incident responses as part of the ENMAX System Control Centre and Emergency Response Plan.
Qualifications:
- BSc. in Electrical Engineering.
- Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscientists in Alberta (APEGA).
- Over 10 years of experience, primarily in utility protection and control, with several years dedicated to protection setting development.
- Experience in developing protection settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and feeders in accordance with ENMAX practices.
- Familiarity with specific software tools (CYME, CYMETCC, CAPE, ArcFM, Mathcad, IPS).
- Proficient in coordination and fault calculation software, as well as Mathcad report writing.
- Well-versed in relay and testing software, with a passion for problem-solving and project work, consistently meeting project milestones.
- Demonstrated sound judgment in decision-making and generating compliant solutions.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
