Position OverviewThe Sous Chef plays a vital role in supporting the Executive Chef in managing a cost-efficient, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment while ensuring exceptional food quality and service speed.
In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef assumes full responsibility for kitchen operations, team management, and maintaining the highest standards of food production.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee food and product ordering, maintaining detailed records to minimize waste and enhance budget management.
- Supervise food preparation and presentation to uphold quality and sanitary standards, ensuring compliance with safe food handling practices.
- Collaborate with kitchen leadership to foster organization, staff development, and training opportunities.
- Continuously seek ways to enhance operations, streamline processes, and provide seamless, quality service to guests.
- Inspect and select only the freshest ingredients for menu items, participating in food preparation and expediting during peak periods.
- Train and guide kitchen staff in proper food preparation techniques and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Implement cost control procedures and ensure compliance with health department regulations regarding food storage and handling.
- Organize kitchen inventory to maintain a first-in, first-out system, ensuring all products are properly dated and stored.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in designated work areas, ensuring quality food presentation to achieve customer satisfaction.
- Assist in the preparation and display of high-quality dishes as directed by the Chef De Cuisine and other senior kitchen staff.
3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a reputable food service establishment is required. Formal culinary training and familiarity with Mediterranean cuisine are preferred.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of restaurant regulations are essential. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Physical RequirementsMost tasks are performed indoors, with moderate temperatures controlled by environmental systems. Candidates must be able to work in various conditions, including extreme temperatures and small spaces.
Physical abilities include lifting up to 50 pounds, operating kitchen machinery, and performing culinary techniques effectively.
ExpectationsMaintain a positive attitude and professionalism at all times. Ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to cleaning and organizational standards throughout the kitchen.
