Red Deer, Alberta, Canada Stantec Full time

Mid-Level Water Resources Engineer

Overview

In our Water division, we unite some of the leading engineers and scientists who perceive a community's relationship with water as an integrated system, rather than isolated networks separated by jurisdictional limits. By engaging with the entire hydrologic cycle, we provide sustainable solutions to ensure that water is accessible when required. Our specialists drive our initiatives with scientific precision, creativity, and a vision for advancement. Daily, we assist communities in enhancing, reusing, and safeguarding this vital resource for future generations.

Your Role

As a member of our Western Canada Irrigation team, you will engage in significant projects, including the Westside Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (WIRP). Our firm, in collaboration with Prairie Engineering Partners, will undertake essential fieldwork, planning, and engineering to advance project design.

The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise applicable to the execution of water conveyance initiatives related to irrigation and planning for governmental, municipal, and private sector clients. Projects may encompass new infrastructure, enhancements to existing systems, and rehabilitation efforts. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have relevant knowledge and experience in similar undertakings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering reports, drawings, and specifications pertinent to irrigation planning and design, along with other related water conveyance projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, and other consultants.
  • Conduct fieldwork or investigations as necessary.
  • Support proposal development as needed.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and supervision to junior engineers.
  • Participate in internal and formal training sessions to ensure ongoing professional development.
  • Comply with Environmental Health and Safety protocols and procedures.

Qualifications

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience in irrigation system planning and design.
  • Experience in related water conveyance projects is an advantage.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all project implementation phases and engineering design processes.
  • Knowledge of soil-water interactions.
  • Proficient in hydraulic analysis and modeling.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative mindset, capable of working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-driven and results-oriented.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software; experience with Microsoft Project is beneficial.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD Civil3D is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software (e.g., MikeUrban, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, XPSWMM) is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in water conveyance projects, with a strong focus on irrigation planning and design.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent field is required.
  • Registration as a P.Eng with APEGA in Alberta is necessary.

This position involves a typical office environment with extensive computer use and desk work. Fieldwork may require exposure to various weather conditions.

Benefits Overview: Regular full-time and part-time employees will have access to health, dental, and vision plans, wellness programs, retirement savings plans, employee stock purchase options, life insurance, and paid time off. Temporary and casual employees will have access to certain retirement savings plans and stock purchase options.

Benefits may vary for union positions, governed by collective bargaining agreements.
