POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lead Internal Auditor plays a crucial role in various internal audit initiatives and projects, including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing, vendor assessments, internal investigations, and process evaluations. This position is accountable for assessing the design and operational effectiveness of controls during audits, compliance reviews, and Sarbanes-Oxley evaluations. The Lead Internal Auditor must grasp the objectives and scope of internal audits, execute audit procedures to meet project goals, document findings, and draft reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct planning, organizing, analysis, testing, and reporting to management regarding audit outcomes.
  2. Recognize significant business risks, focusing on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, and formulate a risk-based project strategy.
  3. Identify potential enhancements in processes and internal controls, discussing these opportunities with relevant stakeholders.
  4. Facilitate or lead project kick-off and closing meetings with clients.
  5. Develop comprehensive audit work plans and prepare documentation that substantiates findings and records activities undertaken.
  6. Assess governance processes and procedures that management employs to oversee risk mitigation efforts.
  7. Create clear and concise written descriptions of issues for inclusion in project reports and communications to the Board of Directors.
  8. Present audit findings to Internal Audit Managers, the Chief Audit Executive, and relevant Process Owners.
  9. Provide direct support to external firms engaged in consulting, financial audits, and assessments of internal control reviews.
  10. Oversee the execution of management action plans.
  11. Conduct data analysis, evaluate results, and derive conclusions to support Internal Audit and Sarbanes-Oxley initiatives.
  12. Operate independently with minimal supervision while effectively coordinating project tasks with team members.
  13. Communicate and interact effectively with management, team members, and other personnel across the organization.
  14. Exhibit professionalism, confidence, and tact when engaging with colleagues.
  15. Foster a collaborative environment and work harmoniously with audit management and team members on all assignments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiarity with internal audit methodologies and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance standards and testing techniques.
  2. Understanding of governance frameworks and control structures such as COSO.
  3. Capability to apply analytical skills and internal control principles to assess processes and identify risks.
  4. Knowledge of enabling technologies and digital transformation efforts, including agile practices, process automation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
  5. Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting financial statement data.
  6. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to conduct effective interviews.
  7. Experience with data analysis tools such as CaseWare IDEA or similar would be advantageous.
  8. Familiarity with JD Edwards and SAP systems is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  2. A minimum of 4 years of experience in internal auditing or 3 years in public accounting or consulting is necessary.
  3. Professional certification (CISA, CIA, CPA, CFE, or equivalent) or progress towards such certification is preferred.
  4. Experience in the manufacturing sector is beneficial.
  5. Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The role requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the use of hands for various tasks. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be necessary. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment typically has a moderate noise level, primarily based in an office setting. Some tasks may require working in operational units, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment. Occasional travel, including air or automobile travel, may be required.
