Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in the healthcare system by collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting diagnostic laboratory findings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, process, analyze, and interpret diagnostic laboratory findings in the specialties of Bio-Chemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Science.
  • Provide 24/7 support to STEGH Laboratory Services.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare teams to ensure accurate and timely test results.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical expertise in laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and volunteers to provide excellent customer service.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a program in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Minimum of one (1) year previous laboratory experience within a hospital environment.
  • Knowledge of Cerner LIS is an asset.
  • Experience in specimen grossing is an asset.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to solve technical problems.
  • High level of initiative, open to change, and proactive to new initiatives.
  • Highly team and customer-focused with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in assignment throughout a shift, follow instructions, and conduct yourself professionally.
  • Ability to work alone, prioritize, and take initiative - self-motivated.
  • Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position.
  • Excellent attendance record.
