About the Role

The Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a motivated and multitasked individual to fill the casual position of Health Care Aide. The successful candidate will work directly under the Continuing Care Supervisor and provide personal care and companionship for seniors, persons with disabilities, and convalescent clients within the continuing care facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during rehabilitation or family disruption.
  • Administer bedside and personal care to clients, including aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing.
  • Escort clients to medical appointments as needed.
  • Perform routine health-related duties, such as changing non-sterile dressings, under the supervision of an LPN.
  • Assist with the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of the LPN.
  • Report to healthcare professionals with patient updates.
  • Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering care to residents and work effectively and cooperatively with family members.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary needs of space.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds, and other related duties.

Key Requirements

  • Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate from an Accredited College/Program is required.
  • Experience in care of the elderly, care of persons with disabilities, convalescent care, or in a related field is required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Previous experience in the health care field and working with older or chronically ill individuals.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is considered an asset.
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract Required.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.

The Fort McKay First Nation is a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray, with a population of over band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage. Fort McKay offers a unique blend of remote northern life and proximity to a large city with all the amenities needed.
