About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Manager to join our team at Smith + Andersen. As a key member of our project delivery team, you will be responsible for leading the development of mechanical engineering concepts and managing the design process to ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery of projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage mechanical engineering concepts, including design briefs and concept reports.
  • Review and manage construction budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Perform reviews of existing installations and interpret the impact on projects.
  • Prepare calculations and select equipment, assigning tasks to designers and CAD technicians as needed.
  • Coordinate document delivery with internal and external project teams, including architects, interior designers, and other disciplines.
  • Review deliverables for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development.
  • Promote and enforce company standards for project administration, documentation, and processes.
  • Act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of contract administration activities.
  • Coordinate with contract administration teams regarding drawing reviews, contract administration processes, and site activities.
  • Prepare change notices and reviews change notices issued by contract administration teams.
  • Ensure tasks are completed accurately and within assigned hours/fee.
  • Respond to technical and financial queries related to projects.
  • Keep Principal-in-Charge or Associate Principal advised of changes in scope of work and prepare amendments to contracts for review and submission to clients.
  • Support accounts receivable processes and liaise with external consultants and vendors as required.
  • Organize and attend meetings, including client meetings, and deliver presentations to clients/owners.
Requirements
  • Possess five or more years of project engineering experience in mechanical building services.
  • Possess current P.Eng. or be able to qualify within one year. A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
  • Advanced working knowledge of provincial building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
  • Fully understand codes and standards relevant to projects and communicate requirements to internal and external project teams, owners, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Fully understand project procurement methodologies and recommend or apply such methods for projects.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced environments, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
  • Possess sound communication skills, as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
  • Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • LEED certification/experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
