Position Overview
The Laboratory Quality Assurance Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities. This position involves conducting assessments on incoming raw materials, in-process items, finished goods, and research and development samples. The primary goal is to maintain the highest quality standards of our products within a safety-oriented work environment. Effective collaboration and communication with various departments, including Operations, Quality, and Customer Innovation, are essential.
Quality team members are expected to exemplify a strong commitment to quality and to meet the needs of both external and internal customers consistently.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Quality Control Manager in implementing quality assurance systems and product safety initiatives in line with company and regulatory standards.
- Conduct testing on incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with customer and internal specifications.
- Perform inspections and tests according to established quality benchmarks, inspection protocols, and testing methodologies.
- Document all test outcomes in digital formats within the laboratory database or on standardized data sheets. Generate daily reports summarizing testing activities and analyze trends using statistical methods for quality assurance or operational purposes.
- Communicate results, evaluate data, and inform management of any materials that do not meet specifications. Immediate reporting is required for any out-of-specification results related to production or shipment assessments.
- Adaptability in shift scheduling (24-hour operations) is necessary, with mandatory overtime as operational demands arise, including weekends.
- Specific responsibilities encompass hydrogenation, refining and bleaching, modification, deodorization, shipments and receiving, and wastewater management.
- Support the development and maintenance of standardization checks for quality control and processing equipment.
- Manage laboratory inventory and promptly notify management for the procurement of replacement supplies.
- Conduct environmental swabbing in designated areas, collect water testing samples, and provide additional assistance as required.
- Complete Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMRs) when necessary.
- Assist production by offering blending instructions to support Customer Innovation efforts.
- Create and prepare sales samples for shipment, conduct testing, and provide Certificates of Analysis (COA) for customer evaluation.
- Perform calibrations and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments, documenting the calibration process.
- Input COAs for specialized oils and projects.
- Analyze unique oils and those that have undergone Customer Service Interventions (CSIs).
- Collect, review, and analyze relevant data.
- Enter samples into the Quality module of the Inventory Tracking System (ITS).
- Establish and uphold quality standards.
- Train new team members in all job-related functions.
- Conduct analyses as required for special projects.
- Assist production teams in resolving quality-related issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Implement 5S methodology in laboratory and conference areas.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field.
- 1 to 3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a food, pharmaceutical, or chemical laboratory setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with laboratory equipment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- Competent in computer usage, mathematics, and data analysis.
