Research Technician

Job Summary
General Fusion is seeking a highly skilled Research Technician to join their team in Richmond, BC. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating lithium metal casting and processing equipment, conducting laboratory experiments, maintaining process documentation, and analyzing experimental results.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating custom-built laboratory equipment, including lithium casting and processing equipment
- Setting up and operating equipment for laboratory experiments
- Performing machining operations on lithium and other materials
- Handling high temperature and rotating equipment safely
- Assisting with equipment maintenance and upgrades
- Conducting routine and one-time experiments to support fusion research
- Championing safe work practices and maintaining a clean and efficient workspace
- Preparing documentation and presenting results to support research and development
- Contributing to a positive work environment and working independently and as part of a team
Requirements
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in a laboratory or research setting
- Hands-on disposition and strong multi-disciplinary skillset in mechanical and electrical systems
- Machine shop skills and experience with power tools
- Interpreting outcomes and communicating findings
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team
- Positive attitude and attention to detail
- Good time management and computer skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Strong safety mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of equipment in a lab environment
- Working with pilot scale and prototype equipment
- Chemical handling and glovebox operation experience
- Handling molten metals and rotating machinery
- Using lifting equipment and pneumatic systems
- Operating vertical lathe and welding/fabrication skills
- Familiarity with 3D CAD design software
