The Food Services Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the high-quality service of meals to students, staff, and faculty at North Island College. Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Trades and Technical Programs, this position requires a collaborative team player who can effectively manage kitchen operations, maintain food safety standards, and provide excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Food Preparation and Service: Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch products as directed by the Dean/Designate, adhering to established quality and procedure standards.
- Menu Planning and Execution: Prepare food products for daily service, maintaining established portion sizes and minimizing wastage.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to all customers, including students, staff, and the general public, and provide relevant information to the Dean/Designate as required.
- Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen work area and related appliances, and ensure a safe and professional working environment by adhering to FoodSafe, WHMIS, and WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Team Collaboration: Establish and maintain positive work relations with instructors and students to support the Professional Cook program and the College as a learning environment.
- Catering Support: Provide support to catering functions, including set-up and service.
- Education and Experience: Minimum two years' related experience working in a high-volume kitchen, cooking short order, breakfast, and lunch, within the Food and Catering Industry. Formal Cook training preferred.
- Certifications: Current Level 1 Food Safe and WHMIS certification.
- Skills and Abilities: Excellent organizational and time management skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, and the ability to work independently and use own initiative to solve immediate problems.
