Analytical Research Consultant

Position Overview:
The Office of the Research Services (ORS) is on the lookout for a Research Business Analyst to enhance our data management and analytical capabilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data within the Office of the Vice-President Research (VPRI). The successful candidate will provide expertise in data analysis and analytics, while also overseeing the development and implementation of technological solutions that support various ORS/VPRI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and recommend strategic enhancements to improve daily ORS data management and workflows, leading technology and data initiatives.
- Assist in the formulation and upkeep of administrative standard operating procedures, including guidelines for technology use within the department.
- Provide expert analysis in data reporting and analytics to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Respond promptly to requests for statistical data and reports, while ensuring accurate data collection and monitoring.
- Oversee the integrity of ORS data records, conducting regular audits and suggesting necessary corrections.
- Manage both electronic and physical records related to grants, contracts, and compliance, ensuring effective stewardship of research documentation.
Qualifications:
- Experience in a research or academic environment.
- Proficient in data management practices, analytics, and reporting.
- A minimum of three years of experience with relational databases, preferably SQL Server.
- Strong SQL query skills and familiarity with business intelligence tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI.
- Knowledge of research protocols and Canadian regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership in technological solution development and requirements gathering.
- Exceptional analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in documenting processes.
- Ability to create data visualization tools and dashboards.
- Capability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work within a team.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Educational Background:
- A university degree in information technology, computer science, data management, analytics, management information systems, or statistics.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be evaluated.
