We are seeking a full-time Clinical Applications Manager.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Clinical Applications Manager will lead a dedicated team focused on the management, operational maintenance, and training related to the Oracle Health Cerner system at MGH. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to identify enhancement opportunities and providing strategic recommendations for system customization to optimize patient care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Management
    • Oversee a team of application support professionals, including Clinical Informatics Specialists, Technical Specialists, Applications Specialists, Business Systems Analysts, Project Managers, and Trainers.
    • Offer mentorship and guidance to team members, ensuring effective workload management and prioritization.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and identifying professional development opportunities.
    • Promote a collaborative and innovative culture within the team to enhance healthcare IT service delivery.
    • Manage operating and capital budgets effectively, ensuring successful project execution.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to team performance, processes, and technology.
  2. Application Strategy and Optimization
    • Coordinate all data, functional, and technical decisions concerning clinical system applications and databases.
    • Develop and implement system rollout strategies, ensuring adequate training and support for staff during project execution.
    • Regularly assess system performance to identify improvement areas, collaborating with clinical professionals to enhance workflows and user experience.
    • Create policies, procedures, and informatics standards to guide application management.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of the Information Management and Technology (IMT) Strategic Plan in partnership with senior leadership.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clinical and operational stakeholders, as well as external partners, including other healthcare teams and vendors.
  4. Vendor Management
    • Build and sustain productive relationships with the Oracle Health Cerner vendor and partners.
    • Collaborate closely with Oracle Health Cerner on contract negotiations, issue resolution, and advocating for features that align with hospital needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, including operational management of clinical information systems and IT project management in a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cerner Millennium or similar hospital information systems is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in managing technology teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a systematic approach to evaluating situations and recommending actionable solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project and technology management, focusing on solution development in complex environments.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in setting team objectives, managing stakeholder expectations, and overseeing budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
