Unit Clerk, Medicine Outpatient Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Unit Clerk to join our team at Burnaby Hospital. As a Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in the operation of our outpatient care area, providing exceptional patient care and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities- Schedule and book outpatient appointments, ensuring timely and efficient service to patients.
- Register patients, obtain and confirm registration information, and complete registration documentation.
- Transcribe and process physicians' orders, coordinate with other departments and facilities, and arrange patient tests and receive results.
- Act as a communication link for the assigned area, contacting other facilities and departments to exchange information regarding bed availability and patient transfers.
- Assemble and maintain patient charts, transcribe patient data into applicable health record systems, and attach patient documents to charts.
- Perform related clerical duties, including data entry, filing, compiling, and preparing statistics and reports.
- Maintain timekeeping records for regular and casual staff, submit and enter payroll information as required, and process requests for vacation, leaves of absence, and terminations.
- Communicate with nursing staff regarding illnesses and absences, and refer problems to the Manager, Clinical Services or designate.
- Maintain records on relief staff, including names, addresses, contact phone numbers, availability for work, and hours worked.
- Grade 12, medical terminology, and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, deal with others effectively, and operate related equipment.
- Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm, organize work, and utilize a variety of computer software applications.
