About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Youth Care Worker to join our team at the Abbotsford School District. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing assistance and support to students requiring behavioral support and intervention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students in creating Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Safety Plans
  • Provide intervention in crisis and emergency situations, and intervene in classrooms and playgrounds when a student's behavior endangers themselves and/or others
  • Work with the school-based counselor to determine an appropriate intervention strategy, including conducting suicide risk assessments, observing and collecting data, consulting with teachers/parents/school staff members, and collaborating with school-based teams
  • Support students in developing self-regulation techniques, anger management, anxiety handling, social skills, personal accountability, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Participate in meetings to strategize and implement support for at-risk students, including school-based team meetings, care team meetings, IEP and Safety Plan meetings, parent/teacher meetings, and Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) meetings
Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a recognized 2-year post-secondary diploma in a related field
  • Current CPI (Crisis, Prevention, and Intervention) certification, child/adolescent psychology, counseling, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol intervention, functional behavior assessment (FBA), conflict resolution
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a related setting working with at-risk children or youth
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
