Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to join our team at the University of Waterloo. As a key member of our Facilities Operations department, you will be responsible for the management of design and construction projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple design and construction projects, from programming and design through construction and close out.
  • Develop and implement project plans, budgets, and schedules, ensuring compliance with University standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including the Director of Design and Construction Services, and external consultants and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes, and standards related to facilities operations and occupational health and safety.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including University staff, consultants, contractors, and external agencies.
  • Prepare and present project status reports, budgets, and schedules to stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain official project records, including budgets, schedules, submittals, specifications, operating and maintenance manuals, drawings, and photos.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional license or designation corresponding to the education obtained (e.g., OAA, P.Eng.).
  • Minimum four (4) years demonstrated experience managing multiple complex construction projects within a major building sector.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated core competencies, including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management, accountability, and adaptability.
  • Proven project and contract management skills and ability to effectively monitor contractors, consultants, evaluate work in progress, and identify/resolve deficiencies.
  • Communication and negotiation skills to effectively interact with University staff, consultants, contractors, external agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects with varying resources and conflicting/competing timelines.
  • Ability to produce status reports, prepare presentations, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices related to building design, construction, architectural, and engineering principles.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable Building Codes, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Sustainability best practices, Construction Act, Municipal by-laws, and other relevant Standards, Acts, and Regulations.
