About the Role

Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Life Sciences Laboratory Planner / Architect to lead the architectural design of projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This individual will be located in our Ottawa, Ontario Canada office. Client projects for this position require Canadian Citizenship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural design of projects, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develop and implement design solutions for Life Sciences projects, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources, ensuring timely completion and quality delivery.
  • Mentor junior staff and oversee their professional development, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Perform site and field visits to review existing electrical systems and observe construction, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members, fostering open communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Seven (7) years minimum experience as a Life Science Laboratory Planner / Architect.
  • Registered architect in the United States or Canada, with a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in proposal and report writing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply a wide range of knowledge of architectural principles and practices.
  • Ability to facilitate and support design charrettes, promoting creative and innovative solutions.
  • Experience in all phases of design, with a track record of completed, successful projects.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, 3D modeling programs (Sketch Up & Revit preferred) and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Skilled in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint.
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. or Canadian Citizenship.
  • Client projects for this position require the ability and willingness to obtain U.S. and/or Canadian government security clearances.
