Job Summary:

The Public Works Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the Public Works department, ensuring that all projects and staff are managed efficiently and effectively. This role requires strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with staff, council, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a team of Public Works staff, including assigning duties and ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard.
  • Inspect employee time sheets and ensure that all hours worked and sick leave are accurate.
  • Verify that all Public Works staff have completed the necessary training and have the required certifications.
  • Ensure that all Public Works staff are aware of and comply with municipal policies and regulations.
  • Implement the Progressive Discipline Policy as required.
  • Notify the Administrator of any on-the-job employee injuries.
  • Submit Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit documentation and obtain necessary permits for all projects.
  • Arrange site inspections with Saskatchewan Environment (Compliance) prior to commencing work and upon completion of all projects that require an Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit.

Administrative Duties:

  • Order parts, small tools, and equipment as required, ensuring that high-value items are pre-approved by Council.
  • Order and arrange installation of road signs, ensuring that the installation meets the requirements set out in the Signing Manual.
  • Order and arrange installation of culverts, obtaining price quotations for large orders.
  • Drop off signed invoices and credit card receipts at the municipal office on a regular basis.
  • Provide accurate written records of activities, including sign theft/damage, road damage/signage/repair, road accidents, and road closures.
  • Complete construction worksheets for all projects as the work is completed.
  • Provide accurate records of Channel Clearing activities to the Administrator.
  • Ensure safety certification is obtained for applicable vehicles/trailers.
  • Obtain over dimension/weight permits as required.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, council, and the public.
  • Knowledge of municipal policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

The Public Works Supervisor will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new situations.
