About the Opportunity

The City of Barrie is seeking a skilled Planner to join our team. As a Planner, you will be responsible for all matters related to land use and development within the city. This includes reviewing and processing land development applications, conducting studies on environmental protection and economic development, and presenting policy recommendations to City Council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Author and present policy recommendations to City Council on land-use and planning issues
  • Conduct studies on environmental protection and economic development
  • Project manage and lead a portfolio of applications
  • Review, process, and present recommendations to City Council on land development applications
Requirements
  • Four-year University Degree in Urban Planning or related discipline
  • Eligibility for and willingness to become a Full Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
  • Eligibility for and willingness to become a Full Member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI)
  • Three years of experience in land-use planning and development
  • Demonstrated experience applying and interpreting planning documents and regulation instruments
What We Offer
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence in good standing
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • 35 hours per week
  • Pay Level: Level 9, Yearly Salary: $77,659.40 to $92,983.80
  • Includes health and dental benefits, optional enrollment in the OMERS Primary pension plan
