Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Procurement Specialist to collaborate with our existing buyer in managing the procurement and delivery of electrical components for our hydroelectric projects. Our focus encompasses the design, production, and installation of turbines and generators, as well as heavy mechanical equipment associated with hydroelectric power plants, including gates, lifting apparatus, guides, civil engineering works, and control systems. Recognized as a leader in this sector, we cater to all Canadian and private electric generation utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and negotiate pricing with suppliers;
  • Generate Purchase Orders and oversee revisions;
  • Enforce and negotiate commercial terms and all contractual obligations;
  • Monitor and expedite supplier deliveries;
  • Address supplier inquiries and facilitate communication;
  • Collaborate with project teams and engineers regarding project specifics (budgets, requisitions, specifications, delivery timelines, etc.);
  • Work closely with accounts payable to reconcile invoices and provide necessary documentation;
  • Ensure suppliers possess the required documentation to proceed with their tasks;
  • Confirm that suppliers submit all essential quality documentation;
  • Assist suppliers in validating packing lists and their entry into the system;
  • Negotiate vendor claims and change orders as necessary;
  • Coordinate with transportation companies, carriers, and customs brokers for order shipments;
  • Manage material returns to vendors as needed;
  • Support urgent purchasing needs in the field;
  • Provide reports as required by the department or senior management;
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a buyer or a combination of 1-2 years' experience with relevant certifications;
  • Familiarity with SAP purchasing software is advantageous;
  • Experience in procuring electrical materials and components is a plus;
  • Solid understanding of commercial purchasing terms and conditions;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and perform under pressure;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently;
  • Ability to research new suppliers or products online;
  • Capacity to work autonomously with minimal information;
  • Commitment to fair, ethical, and transparent procurement practices;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of market trends and best purchasing practices;
  • Proficiency in both English and French.
