Job Summary:

The Yard Operations Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of materials within the yard, including loading and unloading trucks, organizing storage, and maintaining accurate inventory records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Loading and unloading incoming and outgoing trucks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Organizing and maintaining a neat and orderly storage area, ensuring easy access to materials
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and material movement data in the electronic business system
  • Ensuring scrap and waste bins are ready for pickup on scheduled days
  • Retrieving, tracking, and organizing stands and equipment
  • Managing the shipping stand process, including locating and retrieving stands, and administering the stand auditing and robbing processes
  • Working with suppliers to coordinate the pickup of waste chemicals and drop off of empty barrels
  • Maintaining and operating the large outdoor forklift (capacity of 33,000 lbs.)
  • Developing a basic working knowledge of the Paint & Package and Shipping department functions to support those departments as needed

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 months working in a warehouse or material handling environment, or relevant external experience
  • Previous forklift experience is preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and good time management skills
  • Ability to regularly lift and handle material weighing up to 40 pounds
  • A condition of employment is the ability to be fit tested and wear a respirator
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner and comply with all aspects of the organization's policies and procedures

Working Conditions:

  • This is a static weekend shift position, scheduled Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12 hours per day
  • The successful candidate may be required to complete training during a weekday shift and will move to weekends once they have sufficient experience
  • Any future shift changes will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly rate: $34.00 per hour
  • This is a unionized position, and terms of employment are governed by a collective agreement
